EARLVILLE OPERA HOUSE
Celebrates Performing Arts and History
The Earlville Opera House (EOH) opens its 41 season this year! This April we are fighing the blues with master songsmith Peter Karp and "Canadian Juno Award-winning Guitarwoman" Sue Foley! Later in April, sample our first comedy double bill with Puzzled Players and Moose Pie Sketch comedy. We continue fighting the blues with the red-hot Zydeco of Jeffrey Broussard & the Creole Cowboys on June 2.
On May 5, voices of Tabernacle present a Patriotic Salute to America. A Mothers Day Vintage Fashion Show will be May 12 to support Earlville Awesome House events for kids and families!
EOH commemorates the 150 anniversay of the Civil War with two special programs. The EOH travels to Madision Hall on May 19 for John Brown's Ghost: From Madison County to Harper's Ferry. Hamilton's Hugh Humphreys highlights Madison County's role in the Civil War, and historian Matthew Urtz will bring to life those who served in the Civil War with faces and letters of solders. Magpie, well known for their musical renditions of Civil War songs, provides a preview for an expanded concert on June 8.
On June 8, Four Seasons, Four Years~the Civil War: a Musical Journey brings a new theater/folk production to the EOH featuring eleven upstate New York singers and musicians performing songs from 1820-1865, including popular songs and songs inspired by the war and the events leading up to it. The music is interspersed with historical narrative specific to NYS and the NY volunteer regiments.
For Celtic music lovers, May 26 offers a double bill featuring Old Blind Dog's Arron Jones with Claire Mann, joined by the fabulous 5-piece RUNA with lilting harmonies, haunting instrumentals and original ballads. On June 30 don't miss the All-Ireland champion fiddler and high-energy of Irish band Comas. There's still more to come!
The Earlvile Opera House is a beautiful historic landmark and a living testament to local and New York State history. In addition to its performing arts programs, EOH features two art galleries as well as workshop. For more information, www.earlvilleoperahouse.com or 315.691.3550.
The Northeast Classic Car Museum has grown by leaps and bounds in its 15-year existence. It began as the brainchild of a small group of citizens who were concerned about the future of the local economy, and looked to tourism to bolster that future.
Partnering with local farmer and businessman George E. Staley of DeRuyter, the Northeast Classic Car Museum opened its doors to the public in May 1997 with one building and just over 50 classic cars on display. Today, as the Museum celebrates its 15th Anniversary, it is the largest classic car museum in the northeast, with over 160 vehicles on exhibit in five connected buildings. Exhibits include over 25 Franklin
Automobiles (made in Syracuse), the Post-War Collection, and Cars Made In New York State, among others.
A special limited-time exhibit is featured each year at the Museum, built around a theme, specific year, or trend. In May 2012, the Museum will present the “Crystal Collection”, to celebrate its 15th Anniversary. This collection will recap 15 years of fantastic exhibits, and will feature examples from many of the special displays throughout the years. These will include a 1941 Lincoln Ambulance (Red Lights & Sirens), 1959 T-Bird (Nifty Fifties), 1908 Mora (Cars Made in New York State), 1953 Kaiser Dragon (Wild Things & Wild Rides), among others.
In addition to a world-class vintage car collection, the Museum also displays authentic period clothing, WWI & WWII airplane engines, and a tribute to the Bennett-Ireland Company, which was located on the site of the Museum.
The Museum has remained true to its vision statement to be a first-rate tourist attraction that facilitates economic activity and growth within the County and region, as approximately 10,000 visitors from across the nation and around the globe visit the Museum each year.
The Museum is open seven days per week from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and is handicap-accessible. Three motorized scooters, a wheelchair, and two strollers are available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Easy to find just off the intersection of State Routes 12 & 23; free parking.
